| FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions |
Q. Can Load From a Disk (LFD) accurately predict load data and velocity for a wide range of cartridges?
A. The program has been predicting load data, velocity and pressure successfully for over 22 years. It was the very first commercial PC program to do so . Velocity predictions are usually within 5%, or less, of the measured velocity as has been demonstrated in the field, time after time. I often receive letters from LFD users who are simply amazed at the program's accuracy.
Q. Does Load From a Disk generate load data from a database?
A. The program does not use a load database. All load data is generated from a mathematical model based on user input and sound ballistic principles. A great place to develop loads for wildcat or unusual cartridges as well as standard cartridges. You can predict the performance of a cartridge before the rifle for this cartridge is even built.
Q. What is the range of cartridges handled by Load From a Disk?
A. Load From a Disk handles cartridges from the .17-222 to the 50 BMG, including all wildcats and special cartridges in-between these. The program was used to calculate sabot loads for an article in the 1997 HANDLOADER'S DIGEST.
Q. Can Load From a Disk users enter their own powder type and load data?
A. No. The math model uses an 86% to 90% load density with pressures of 40,000 CUP to 50,000 CUP to produce optimum loads for a given cartridge. Not all powders fit this criteria for a given cartridge. The program will generate load data for 5 to 10 different powders.
Q. What powders does Load From A Disk cover?
A. Powders covered by Load From A Disk:
ACCURATE ARMS POWDERS

Q. What cartridges does Load From A Disk cover?
A. The cartridge database contains dimensions and case capacities for 1200 cartridges. Click Here to see current list.
Q. Can Load From a Disk be used to predict load data for handguns?
A. Because of the wide fluctuation in loading density (and pressure) a math model cannot be used to predict loads in handguns. Pretty good results can be obtained with magnum handgun cartridges in long barrel guns. The fastest powder covered by Load From a Disk is Alliant 2400.
Q. Is a demo available for Load From a Disk ?
A. Yes. Click here if you're interested in downloading a demo version of the software. Demo is only available by downloading from our web site.
Q. Is Load From a Disk easy to use?
A. Load From a Disk is one of the easiest windows programs to use on the market today. Most users don't even need to open the comprehensive manual that is furnished with the program. The program is Icon driven and most answers are only a mouse click away. Many examples are furnished with the program disks. If you have other questions, please submit them to me by the e-mail address listed on the support page.
Q. How often is the software updated?
A. Approximately every 24 months a new version of Load From A Disk is released. We are continually looking for ways to improve the software and listening to our customers on what they would like to see next. Please note that as a registered user of Load From A Disk you'll be given the opportunity to purchase the update at a deep discount (normally 1/2 price).
